Interview Series #001: Ruth Koleva

In this new series, we will be interviewing a range of artists and music industry professionals. Our first featured guest will be Ruth Koleva - an intrepid musician and festival organizer.

Tell us about yourself, Ruth!

I was born in Sofia, Bulgaria, but was fortunate to travel the world from a very early age, since my Olympian father was coaching teams around the world when I was a child. I grew up in India, Bahrain and Thailand and in recent years settled in New York City. I've been involved in music for the last 15 years, and I had my first record deal when I was 15. I've grown to own a label, run a festival and manage other artists ever since.

How would you describe the music you make?

I would describe my style as an eclectic mix of pop, soul and nu jazz. I've had different influences throughout the years and I try not to stay in the same place.

Do you collaborate with others in the music industry?

I do collaborate with a lot of people on a daily basis. I think collaboration is the best way to expand your knowledge, horizons, opportunities and abilities.

When did you discover Rotor?

I discovered Rotor accidentally over 2 years ago and have been using it for personal and professional needs. I've recommended Rotor to many artists I personally work with and everyone's been extremely happy to have such a helpful tool with great quality and affordable price.

Have you seen your rotor videos have an effect?

My Rotor videos have been played on national and regional TV, so definitely - the videos look professional and on point to match the quality of the music.

How do you see rotor being used in the future with your music?

We live in times where so much of music is "consumed" visually, and many of us artists cannot afford to film a professional video with a budget of $5000-$10000 for every song we have (or any song). The quality of Rotor and the diversity of content you have is a great way for us artists to make professional videos for an affordable price.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am wrapping up the release of my album, which should be out by the end of the year. I just had my festival - Sofia Live Festival sofialivefest.com happen a week ago, and I am still over excited with the work we do there.

Do you have any specific feedback or product requests from us?

Well, since I've done quite a few videos by now - all new footage and content is great! Keep them coming!

We will! Thanks Ruth!
